What goes into a video quote
Most underpriced quotes forget the same things: prep and travel, the gear you own, post-production days, and what the client does with the video. A paid ad that runs for a year is worth more to the client than an organic post, and your price can say so.
Questions
How much should a videographer charge per day?
Published 2026 figures: in the US about $400–700 a day for beginners, $800–1,500 mid-level and $1,500–3,000+ for specialists (Film Lifestyle). In the UK, videographers average about £427 a day (YunoJuno). In France, editors charge about €200–350 a day at entry level, €400–600 mid-level and €650–800+ senior (Videotto). Your own price depends on your costs, your market and what the video earns the client.
How do I charge for a half day?
A common rule is 4 hours at two thirds of the day rate. It covers the travel and set-up that a short shoot still needs.
What are usage rights and why charge for them?
The same video is worth more to a client when it runs as a paid ad than as an organic post. Many freelancers add 50–100% to their creative fees for paid ads, and 20–50% for exclusivity (you agree not to work for the client’s competitors).
Should I charge a deposit?
Yes. 50% to book is common for new clients. It protects the day you block in your calendar and filters out clients who aren’t serious.
How does VAT work for clients in other EU countries?
For a business client in another EU country you usually invoice without VAT under the reverse-charge rule and mention it on the invoice. For clients in your own country you add your local VAT. Check the details with your accountant.
Is anything I type saved?
Only in your browser, so it’s there next time. Nothing is sent to a server.
